Description:
Artemisia tridentata ssp. tridentata seeds collected for use in: Orchard Common Gardens and Genome Sequencing. Basin Big Sagebrush is the keystone species of the sagebrush steppe, a widespread ecosystem of western North America threatened by climate change. This study is sequencing, phasing and annotating the diploid genome of Basin Big Sagebrush. This taxon has 2n=2x=18 chromosomes and a 2C genome size of 9.5Gbp. We are aiming to produce enough biomass from an individual line to sequence the entire genome, and maintain this individual line in-vitro and ex-vitro to support genotype-by-environment experiments. Seeds from one mother plant were collected in each population and used to generate the 45 individuals included in this experiment. The population IDT-3 (Highway 95 Hilltop) corresponds to the G1 drought-tolerant genotype, whereas the UTT-2 (La Sal B) population corresponds to G2 drought-sensitive genotype.
