Building a Bridge Between Adaptive Capacity and Adaptive Potential to Understand Responses to Environmental Change SOCIAL, CLIMATE Adaptive capacity is a topic at the forefront of environmental change research with roots in both social, ecological, and evolutionary science. It closely related to the evolutionary biology concept of adaptive potential. In this systematic literature review we: 1) Summarize the history of these topics and related fields; 2) Assess relationship(s) between the concepts among disciplines and the use of the terms in climate change research, and…
Sagebrush Rooting In-Vitro Propagation Sagebrush, Tissue Basin Big sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata subsp. tridentata) is the keystone species of the sagebrush steppe, a widespread ecosystem of western North America threatened by climate change. This study aims at developing an in vitro method of propagation for this taxon using growth regulators to support genome sequencing and genotype-by-environment research underpinning drought research. Seedlings were generated from two diploid mother plants (2n=…
Fine-scale habitat patches of Idaho attributed with climatic, topographic, soil, vegetation, and disturbance variables CLIMATE, CRITTERS, Animals, Plants, Distribution, GIS/TERRAIN, Boundaries, Elevation, Land cover, Land use, SOIL This data publication contains approximately 44.3 million polygons derived from multi-scale object-oriented image analysis attributed with climatic, topographic, soil, vegetation, and disturbance variables. The polygons provide continuous coverage for the
Dry Creek Experimental Watershed-Lower Weather Station Data Access CLIMATE, Air temperature, Humidity, Precipitation, SOIL, Physical soil properties, Soil moisture Realtime and historic weather data collected at the Dry Creek Experimental Watershed (DCEW) Lower Weather station. Data is provided by the Boise State University Department of Geosciences. Data includes air temperature, relative humidity, precipitation, snow depth, soil moisture, soil temperature, radiation, and wind speed. Data from additional sites within the DCEW can be accessed from the linked page.
Redband Trout Collection Reports Trout Final Redband Trout collection datasets submitted to Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) in fulfillment of scientific collection permit requirements. Documents the location and reproductive stage of trout captured and transported in 2019 and 2020 to common garden experiments at the University of Idaho Hagerman Fish Culture Experiment Station. Collection locations include: Fawn, Whiskey Jack, Keithly, Williams, Pole Bridge, Duncan, Big Jacks…
Climate-Smart Restoration Tool Web application, CLIMATE, Air temperature, Plants, Sagebrush Over a century of genetic research has shown that environment, in particularly climate, strongly affects plant genetic adaptation and the geography distance seed can be moved from its source location. The Climate Smart Restoration Tool (CSRT) was developed to provide information on seed collection and transfer of native plants. The CSRT maps current and future seed transfer limits for plant species with or without genetic information using…
Agent-based models for redband trout Animals, Trout, Change, Distribution, Future, Population Files for running early-stage agent-based models (ABM) to look at spatially-explicit patterns and mechanisms of adaptive capacity. Initial models have been focused on the streams in the Jack's Creek system. These models are run using python and CDmetaPOP. Models were run for 100 years under a variety of scenarios which incorporate numerous factors, such as individual dependent size and mortality. These models are easy to manipulate, and I…
Database of Stream Reach Descriptors Water temperature, Physical water properties, Stream flow, Stream networks The NHD-Plus project was initiated by EPA and USGS to facilitate consistent national and interstate stream assessments. The NHD-Plus hydrography layer provides a unique spatial code for each stream reach within the U.S. and is used for a rapidly growing number of applications. Some advanced user groups have developed databases comprised of reach-scale descriptors (e.g., elevation, slope, drainage area, etc.). Hundreds of those descriptors now…
Climate Shield Cold-Water Refuge Streams for Native Trout Water temperature, Animals, Trout, Change, Distribution, Future, Population, Physical water properties Populations of many cold-water species are likely to decline this century with global warming, but declines will vary spatially and some populations will persist even under extreme climate change scenarios. Especially cold habitats could provide important refugia from both future environmental change and invasions by non-native species that prefer warmer waters. The Climate Shield website hosts geospatial data and related information that…
Aquatic eDNAtlas Project Animals, Invertebrates, Microorganisms, Trout, Distribution, GENOMIC, WATER The eDNAtlas is an open-access database developed through crowd-sourced field surveys that provides precise spatial information on the occurrence locations of aquatic species in the U.S. The eDNA samples constituting the database are collected using a standardized field sampling protocol by numerous natural resource agencies and non-governmental organizations partnered with the National Genomics Center for Wildlife and Fish Conservation (NGC),…
Observed Stream temperatures of redband trout habitats in Idaho Water temperature, WATER, Physical water properties Uploaded files are observed water temperatures of streams inhabited by redband trout in Idaho. Data were collected from 2014-2019 by Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission as part of the redband trout thermal adaptation study led by Shawn Narum. Water Temperatures were monitored using Tidbit V2 temperature loggers (Onset) with logging intervals between 30-50 min. These temperature data can be used to characterize thermal regimes of redband…
StreamNet Interactive Maps and GIS Datasets for Redband Trout distribution Web application, Trout, Change, Distribution, Historic, Stream networks Pacific State Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC) has recently completed this updated and interactive map of Redband Trout distribution. This resource may be useful for those people trying to identify sampling locations and project sites. No GIS software required; users can interact with the map in a browser.

You can find the latest version of Redband fish distribution on the StreamNet Mapper link at the top of the page (updated…
Summary of Legacy Tissue Samples for Redband Trout Literature review, Trout, Distribution, Historic, Tissue This Excel sheet provides a summary of the 26,000 tissue samples collected from Redband Trout across the Western USA.

We will need researchers in the Trout Mechanisms group to go through it and select samples for genetic analysis that match our GEM3 needs. We don’t plan to sequence 26,000 plus samples but mainly those that are connected with our sampling sites and also those that will help us in our interactions with the Mapping…
Redband Trout Legacy Tissue Collection Sites Trout, Distribution, Historic, Population, GIS/TERRAIN, Boundaries Tissues samples of redband trout have been collected across the western US. This map attempts to collate all of the known collection sites from the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) and the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission (CRITFC). The dataset also contains the number of samples collected at each location.

** Be aware that this map is a work in progress. Data are still being cleaned and the data set will be…
